XFactor

XFactor Winner James Arthur’s Accountant was sentenced to four years in jail on 25th January 2019, after being found guilty of stealing £600,000 from the singer to fund his online gambling addiction. Accountant, Mark Livermore was found guilty of stealing the monies off the popular singer whilst Arthur on tour.

Initially, Livermore stole £10,000 in the hope that it would cover his debts and he would be able to pay back the stolen funds by any winnings he made. On the 18th December 2018, Livermore plead guilty  to fraud by abuse of position at City of London Magistrates.

Livermore worked for MGM Accountancy, which he joined in 2001, of which James Arthur was a client. In a statement given to Southwark Crown Court, Director of MGM Accountancy, Guy Rippon explained how much damage Livermore’s actions had caused to his company. The thefts from Arthur were only discovered upon Rippon reviewing client accounts, of which he saw transferred being made from Arthur’s account to Livermore’s.

The court also heard that over the past five years Livermore’s credit card bills had spiralled out of control and his gambling addiction continued to take hold. With Livermore believing that by taking £10,000 from Arthur’s account we would be able to clear his debts, by wagering the monies stolen.

As a result of his sentence passed by the judge, Livermore will no longer be allowed to work as an accountant, with the Financial Reporting Council barring him. The lawyer representing Livermore, Christopher Martin told the court: “James Arthur was not chosen, there was never any intention to defraud Mr Arthur or his company of nearly £600,000.

The 2012 XFactor Winner is understood to have his losses covered by insurance.
