Players often encounter the term rogue or blacklisted online casino, some unfortunately through first hand experience. Whereby they only realise the online casino they have played at is a 'bad apple', when it comes to cashing out.

Many players however are becoming more 'savvy' when it comes to gambling online and perform the necessary due diligence before depositing. Google and the other search engines play a key role here. Sometimes though, even by using a search engine, a player can be referred to a casino portal which provides a glowing review to a casino which is lacking in customer service and produces problem after problem when it comes to cashing out.

Therefore, a thread has been started in the OCR Forum regarding the merits of naming and shaming affiliate sites that openly promote KNOWN rogue casinos.

This is an issue that affects players, webmasters and operators. I want to hear your views on this hot topic.

Take a look at the thread here

Microgaming - A Time to Act!

There is no doubt that 2009 has been a tough year for the online gambling industry. With the full force of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act taking affect, late 2008 saw Microgaming powered casinos and online poker rooms stop accepting new players from the United States.

Hot on the heels of this announcement the Grand Prive Casino Group notified all their affiliate partners that they were shutting down their affiliate program with affect from 1st December 2008. Stating that from that point onwards no affiliate payments would be paid to their affiliate partners, even though the vast majority agreed to the terms and conditions that the affiliate would receive the lifetime value of the player.

This action by this one casino group which uses Microgaming Software has meant that hundreds if not thousands of Grand Prive's affiliate partners, have had confiscated from them hundreds of thousands of dollars to this point in time. Indeed the amount could be even higher.

So why should the player be concerned about this? Well quite simply, if a casino reneges on a contract with their partners, it sets a worrying precedent. What is to stop the casino doing the same to their players?

Fast forward 10 months and Grand Prive is still operating, despite being blacklisted by countless casino portals across the internet. In short Grand Prive are still feeding off the player base provided to them by their marketing partners which they left out in the cold.

Having worked for 5 years for probably the largest Microgaming Casino in Ladbrokes ( I was there from the start and worked very closely with MGS as I was part of Ladbroke's IT Team ), I know exactly what was entailed to enable Ladbrokes to obtain a licence.

The due dilgence that Ladbrokes had to go through, was extremely rigourous. Back in 2000 when Ladbrokes Casino was launched, to run a casino powered by microgaming was a very hard feat to achieve. In short, obtaining the right to use Microgaming's software was harder than obtaining a gaming licence in many jurisdictions.

Now as an affiliate and I might add a player, I find it incredulous that Microgaming have somehow let their once high standards drop, allowing their players and affiliates of microgaming powered online casinos which have gone to the wall left hung out to dry.

The casino that has gone to the wall most recently is EuroLinx.

Microgaming charge a high percentage on profit of all their operators each and every month. They have a moral obligation to ensure the players at Eurolinx get paid out in full. They also could have stopped Grand Prive stealing the monies from all their affiliate partners. Yet they have done nothing, absolutely nothing.

Shame on you Microgaming. Your inaction is a bad reflection on your decent upstanding operators. Who should be mortified that your lack of leadership on these issues is indirectly affecting them.

The APCW are in the process of investigating Microgaming and their inaction, plus their link to ecogra.

Microgaming in my opinion is still the best casino software on the net. All the Microgaming Casinos which are featured on Online Casino Reviewer are all upstanding operations.

Yet Microgaming's lack of actions or public comments on Eurolinx, Tusk and Grand Prive is doing a great disservice to all the good reputable operators that use their software.

Microgaming do the right thing!
SEGA being one of the giants in the gaming console industry of the 90's is going to make a big step? If this is true I think this would be one of the huge moves that’s that this company will make. Will they succeed in this Online Casino Industry? What do you think of SEGA will they dominate the Online Casino? SEGA is a big name that other Online Casino sites should watch out.
DMOZ - Is it worth it?

For those of you that don't know, DMOZ also known as the Open Directory Project was started in the 1990's by Netscape. It's sole purpose to be the internet's number one authority human edited directory.

DMOZ/ODP quickly established itself as the authoriative directory and soon webmasters were clammering to get their websites a DMOZ listing.

This subsequently increased when google decided to use the DMOZ rdf dump to base the google directory on.

In my opinion and that of many webmasters, a listing on DMOZ is one of many important goals when trying to establish your domain and it's presence on the web.

However getting listed on DMOZ is not the be all and end all. Indeed, due to the number of suggestions made to DMOZ daily and the few editors in relation to websites out there, even getting your site reviewed by an editor could take several years.

So in short do not get hung up in trying to attain a DMOZ listing. This is especially so if you run a gambling portal. It is incredibly hard to get a new site listed in one of the gambling categories. Unfortunately this is primarily due to the amount of spam sites which are submitted daily.

If your website is of a sufficient enough quality, provides insightful unique content to it's visitors, then it will in time get noticed by a DMOZ Editor and will get listed. This goes for the gambling category as much as any other.

I am of the view that DMOZ does add quality to the internet and provides a useful resource for it's visitors. With this I can completely understand why google bases it's directory listing on DMOZ.

The job of the editors is a thankless task and somehow this is to be expected.

Upon redesigning and revamping Online Casino Reviewer, as well as bringing the content up to date for our visitors, the other issue I want to tackle is the forum.

I honestly believe that the forum on OCR can and could be a great resource for all our visitors. It is however certainly an area of the site I have neglected for far too long.

I feel the purpose of the forum should allow all those interested in playing online a platform to speak with other likeminded individuals. Whilst I want the forum to be run professionally, I also do not want people to be afraid to post their views and opinions here. In short I want it to become a lively and active platform.

This is by no means an easy thing to do, especially from a standing start. Therefore I am willing to put up to $400 of my own money in funding a poker freeroll should we get enough interest.

All that is required in return, is that the people that wish to enter the freeroll, contribute positively to the forum on Online Casino Reviewer. Thereby their participation will hopefully in turn encourage other visitors to sign up and take part.

I would be interested to hear any suggestions or opinions as to what else I can do to try and make the forum here on OCR a success.

The site as a whole, gets good organic traffic and also the forum is listed in DMOZ and the subsequent child directories.

I am all ears and would really like to not have to be put in a position one day, where I might as well archive the forum.

To register an account on Online Casino Reviewer's Forum please visit here.

Once you have a forum account please indicate your willingness to take part in our proposed poker freeroll if inclined here.
